Commands

This page documents the commands available in a room via text. Some of this functionality is also available to audio participants on a service-specific basis, and is documented on the relevant service page (Google Talk, Phone, Skype, Web).

Required arguments are shown in <angle brackets>; option arguments are shown in [square brackets].

Entering and Leaving a Room

.enter <your-room-number> [requested-nickname]

Enter the specified conference, optionally requesting a particular nickname. If you do not request a nickname, ClackPoint will do its best to guess one for you. If your requested nickname is not currently available, perhaps because someone is already using it, ClackPoint will construct a unique nickname for you using your request. ClackPoint will not currently let you join more than one conference at a time. Please use the Feedback tab to contact us if this is a problem for you.

.leave

Leave any rooms you’re currently in.

Directed Messaging

Sometimes while you’re in a room, particularly a busy room, you may find it useful to be able to send a private message to another member. ClackPoint supports this using directed messaging: simply prepend your message with d their-nickname. Clients render directed messages distinct from the main conference conversation.

For example, entering the message

d mark what do you think of rob's proposal?

will send the message

what do you think of rob’s proposal?

only to the conference participant nicknamed mark.

Room Roster

Once in a room, ClackPoint maintains a roster noting who is in the room, how, and their current status.

.list
.list members

Displays a list of current room members.

.list presence

Displays a list of current room members with their status (available, away, etc.).

.list count

Displays how many current members there are.

.kick <nickname>

Ejects user <nickname> from the room.

Floor Control

ClackPoint maintains a ‘hand’ status — up or down — for each member to enable member-driven floor-control. Each time your hand is raised or lowered, the action is reflected to other room members.

.hand up

Raises your hand.

.hand down

Lowers your hand.

.hand show

Shows whose hands are up and whose are down.

Action!

Finally, ClackPoint allows you to express simple actions to other room members able to view text: just prepend the action with .me when you enter it as a message. For example,

.me jumps for joy!

will appear to everyone in the room via text as

John jumps for joy!

after suitable client formatting.
